Around the world, professional development in the food protection continuum is purchased from a mix of academic and non-academic providers and designed in-house by food businesses and governments at all levels. Safe Food Canada recognizes food protection as a partnership, with responsibilities for all participants, from the farm or fishing vessel to the fork.
In light of increasingly complex global production and distribution channels, Canada’s food protection system is modernizing to be more adaptable and focussed on risk and prevention. For this, Canada must develop its expertise in learning partnerships to ensure consistent and effective training and education that is used for industry and regulators alike.
Currently, Canada is home to some highly relevant and recognized programs including the University of Guelph’s M.Sc.Food Safety and Quality Assurance master of science or graduate diploma program, McGill University’s M.Sc. Food Safety and Quality Program and Fleming College’s online Food Service Worker Certificate.
